Emerald Hotel Kampala ★★★

The room was very basic, but it was okay for one night. The breakfast bread was quite good.

The room wasn't cleaned properly. I also thought that the breakfast would be a buffet, but they served the breakfast to our room.

one staff member was so kind and helpful with the check in and room selection process. location was close to downtown and walking distance to Cafe Javas, a restaurant we like. check in was easy

water pressure was a trickle and wasn’t enough to shower so we had to just rise my kids off, brown water came out of the bath tub faucet before running clear again. no air conditioner remote so the factory setting was the only option. building is very very old.

The fact that if one books through booking.com you only get bottled water once as part of check in but not for subsequent days.

Breakfast and food variety was very limited. Some bathing towels were very old and need replacement.

The TV channels were basically orient which didn’t meet my taste

The hotel is centrally located, and the staff is very friendly and thoughtful.

The hotel is quite rustic, and old. Our room was stuffy, and even an open window did not help. The door to the room would not lock, and the handle was about to come off. The bathtub had no stopper nor a shower curtain, making showering a splashy affair.

It seems that this hotel is way overrated. I made a 4 day booking for a colleague based on the attractive online profile but she had a very unpleasant experience. Apparently the food was terrible and she could not leave the hotel to find an alternative eatery as it is located at the back roads with no access to cars (due to ongoing road construction). The bed sheets were dusty and clearly unchanged for days, but thankfully she had carried her own. She couldn't get proper sleep for the entire 4 nights due to a live band nearby that played all night. My worst disappointment is that at the point of payment, they refused to run my visa (which I had used to make the booking), and insisted on cash payment- they couldn't even provide a mobile money or bank transfer alternative- alternatives that could have worked just as well. They also added breakfast to the bill- yet the online booking had indicated 'breakfast- inclusive'. They really should do better!

I liked the location of the hotel. I also liked the food and the customer care at the facility. On the whole I enjoyed my stay and my wife has the same impressions. If unnecessary levels of noise at night during the weekend are controlled, the facility can easily be an excellent one.

I understand the need for the hotel to host functions in order to break even financially. But at times the noise levels were just too high between 9:00pm and 2:00am when tired guests would be sleeping. That was my experience between Friday 9 December 2016 and Sunday 11 December 2016.

Same as the last visit. Air conditioning was better and the water flow in washrooms were also improved.

WiFi was not working or weak most of the time. Electric kettle missing this time.

Room was dirty rv not working no aircondirion with a very noisy industrial fan. No hot water wc flush not working no amenities like soap... very noisy environment the mess. Not to be recommended at any price.
